Unser Weg zu einem klimaneutralen Gebäude

Comparing alternatives to see what works best

A look into climate calculation

In this research project RWT plus brings in their knowledge on building physics. Four construction alternatives will be assessed on their performance with regard to climate neutrality. Before the experts of IBO make their calculation, RWT looks at the possible alternatives. Christine Rollenitz is the one who researches possible materials and how they combine to make a construction that works. Because this is not just an academic research to see what is best for the environment – we also need to live in it and be able to afford it! This means that Christine looks at packages of materials that in combination keep the rain out and the warmth in, while also meeting the standards of fire safety and sound isolation.

“Housing has very high requirements on the building materials: people are sleeping there after all. In office buildings the application of wood has advanced more. In order to meet the standards in housing, enough mass is needed to assure sufficient sound compensation.

In practice, the alternative scenarios that we look at might not differ so much in their outcome of the climate calculation. The building as it will be realized as of next year will hopefully perform better than the Conventional Building Scenario.”
